My Favorite Programs
My Favorite Programs need to meet three requirements. They have to be free, work with Microsoft Windows, and I have to like them enough to use them regularly.
I don't know why these people write these programs for free. I wish more people would do free services like this,
the world would be way cooler. Yay for open source and GPL.
There are many more free programs that I use. I'll add them soon.
- OpenOffice: An Office suite for many Operating systems. It that can make Microsoft Office files.
- FileZilla: Windows FTP client for windows, supports secure file transfers.
- FireFox: An Internet Browser for Windows and *nix that has themes, and plugins. I like the Foxmarks bookmark synchronizer, and the Firebug and Web Developer plugins which help me make websites.
- Ubuntu Linux: An alternative to Microsoft Windows. Easy to install, update, and use. They have new versions of Ubuntu pretty frequently. It networks with Windows machines nicely. It's getting better all the time.
- Gimp: Photoshop alternative for Windows and Unix based operating systems. Not the easiest thing to use
- Inkscape: Illustrator alternative that makes vector graphics.
- Scribus: InDesign alternative that makes nice posters, newsletters, and magazines.
- 7-zip: Unzips archive files including the Unix types.
- burnatonce: A cd/dvd iso creator/writer.
